Hongqi to unveil first BEV in Octobe



Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, Dong Haiyang, assistant to the general manager of FAW Group, revealed that the group's luxury car marque, Hongqi, will roll out its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) in October, 2018. The vehicle is said to be 4.5 meters long and have a range of 310km.
The first BEV is likely to be H5 EV, according to some analysts. The electric version of H5 will resemble the gasoline version in exterior appearance, with a straight waterfall chrome grille and filled with Chinese aesthetics of symmetry.
On January 8, Xu Liuping, chairman of FAW Group released the all-new brand strategy of Hongqi. The automaker plans to shape the luxury marque as NO.1 luxury auto brand in China and one of the renowned brands across the world.
According to Hongqi’s plan, it will introduce the first electric vehicle in 2018 and it will run the fuel cell vehicle in batches in the following year. In 2020, its all-new FME platform will roll out series of electric vehicles, which can have a range of 600km. By 2025, Hongqi will launch a total of 15 electric vehicle models.
Apart from the electric vehicles, Hongqi will also step up efforts to promote the development of fuel cell vehicles. Xu Liuping said that fuel cell battery is also an important part of the company’s strategy. Since fuel cell battery boasts many merits, Hongqi had better put more efforts in the development to gain advantages over other competitors.

BAIC MOTOR BJ brand aims to sell 40,000 off-roaders in 2018


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BAIC MOTOR (a subsidiary of BAIC Group) announced that its BJ off-roader brand reached an annual sales volume of around 27,000 units last year. According to Xu Heyi, chairman of BAIC Group, BAIC MOTOR aims to sell 40,000 BJ off-roaders in 2018 and plans to launch 5 new models under BJ brand.
The 5 new models will contribute to form a stronger product lineup for the BJ brand. They include BJ80 2018, BJ80 luxury version, BJ40 modified version, BJ40 2018 classic version and BJ20 2018. Except meeting consumers’ demands on vehicle performance, the refreshed product mix has a higher level of intelligent-connected driving system over traditional off-roaders.
In 2018, the BJ brand plans to construct its independent sales channel of 50 dealerships with new standards. In the meantime, under current franchising system, the brand aims to implement operation of 150 dealerships sharing with Senova, another vehicle brand of BAIC MOTOR, and 250 unauthorized dealerships. Finally, the BJ brand will own 450 dealerships this year.
BAIC MOTOR currently owns 3 main brands, the BJ brand, the BAIC Senova, the BAIC Wei Wang.

Top 10 Automakers by 2017 NEV Sales



Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China saw a robust NEV sales growth in 2017. According to the data released by China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), BYD topped the rank with annual NEV delivery of 113,669 units, increasing 11% year on year. With NEV deliveries soaring 125% on an annual basis to 104,520 units, BAIC BJEV took the second place among the top ten automakers. Though SAIC Passenger Vehicle ranked third with a total delivery of 44,236 units, it lagged far behind BAIC BJEV. Notably, it saw a year-on-year surge of 121%.
ZHIDOU posted NEV deliveries of 42,484 units with a year-on-year leap of 109%, taking the fourth place among the ten automakers. Zotye followed ZHIDOU with an annual NEV sales of 36,979 units, down 0.05% over the previous year.
What's worth mentioning, among the top ten automakers, Changnan enjoyed the largest YoY sales growth of 487% to 29,063 units. Four brands achieved three-digit growth, including BAIC BJEV, SAIC Passenger Vehicle, ZHIDOU, and Changan Automobile. Among the ten automakers, only Zotye suffered an annual sales drop of 0.05%, and the rest nine all gained two-digit or even three-digit YoY sales growth in 2017.

Didi sets up Hangzhou division for sharing electric cars

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Didi Chuxing (Didi), the Chinese ride-sharing giant has set up a new division in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province to specialize in businesses of electric vehicle-sharing and electric bike-sharing according to the information from unnamed sources.
On January 9, 2018, Didi and Bluegoo (one of China's bike-sharing brands) announced that Didi will take over a part of Bluegogo’s business and users are allowed to ride Bluegogo’s bikes using Didi app without any deposit in the near future. Meanwhile, Didi also stated that it will launch their own bike-sharing platform cooperating with many other bike-sharing brands. It is widely considered in industry that Didi’s new move in the area of EV-sharing and E-bike-sharing may intensify the competition in travelling field.
In fact, Didi has long held the idea of developing its vehicle-sharing business. At 4th World Internet Conference in December last year, Cheng Wei, CEO and founder of Didi, revealed that Didi also has thoughts on vehicle-sharing service while it needs time to make planning and decide operation details. Up to now, Didi has already promoted 11 types of vehicle services, such as car rental, designated driving and hitching, etc.
In addition, other bike-sharing brands are also accelerating their layouts in vehicle-sharing area. At the end of 2017, Mobike started a trial operation of vehicle-sharing in Gui’an new area, Guizhou Province and received an investment from FAW Car, a subsidiary of FAW Group.

China auto sales rise to 28.879 million in 2017

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on Thursday, China auto sales in 2017 rose to 28.879 million vehicles in 2017, an increase of 3 percent from a year earlier, which is lower than the expectation. China has been the largest auto market by sales for nine consecutive years.
In 2017, China auto market maintained steady growth in vehicle output and sales on the basis of the record-high volume of 2016. However, a growth rate of 1.4 percent in passenge vehicle market was lower than the average rate of the whole industry and the lowest in the past nine years.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) segment kept a good momentum in the annual sales. Last year, the sales of new energy vehicles soared 53.3 percent to 777,000 units. The ratio of NEV sales to the total vehicle sales were 2.6 percent in the past year.
Last year, a total of 10.847 million vehicles under self-owned brands were sold and accounted for 43.9 percent of the total sales volume. The percentage was higher than that of the previous year. In particular, the SUV sales under self-owned brands reached 6.217 million units, growing 18 percent year on year and accounting for 60.6 percent of the total SUV sales.
The association said that according to the data from automakers, the vehicle export volume rose 25.8 percent year on year to 891,000 units. This is the first annual sales growth after the export volume had fallen for four years. In the past year, our country imported 1.14 million vehicles from January to November last year.

Volkswagen to launch Future Center Asia in Beijing on Jan. 25


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- According to Volkswagen Group's 2025 strategy, the German carmaker will build three Future Centers worldwide. Beijing, Capital of China will be the site of the Future Center Asia. It is revealed that the center will be put into operation on Jan. 25.
The Future Center Asia will open up five interaction zones to the public. After being put into operation officially, the new Future Center will boast self-owned design and R&D rights, which will better meet Asian customers' demands and will accelerate the R&D pace for new models. With the integration of digitalization and design, the center will accelerate the product R&D in China, speed up the localization of vehicle models and improve the service experience for customers.
At Future Center Asia, exterior designers, interior designers as well as engineers will work together to fulfill the integration of digitalization and design. In addition, the center will showcase the job contents of researchers and designers, investigation methods of customer experience and how to use AI to adjust design plans and driverless vehicles through five interaction experiencing zones.
Volkswagen Group owns a wide variety of vehicle brands, such as Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Lamborghini, etc. All of these brands have been introduced into the Chinese market. And all the brands under Volkswagen Group can utilize the Future Center Asia. Based on the status quo of the Chinese market,  the center will help Volkswagen Group to launch more new models to meet Chinese customers' demands.

Geely 2017 net profit expected to be doubled


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Tuesday, Geely Auto announced that thanks to the substantial growth in annual sales and the improvement in product portfolio, its net profit of 2017 will be doubled on the basis of the previous year’s results.
On Monday, Geely Auto announced that it handed over 1,247,116 vehicles in 2017, soaring 63 percent compared with the previous year and setting another sales record. At the same time, the Hangzhou-based automaker eyes 1.58 million vehicle sales in 2018, jumping 27 percent compared with 2017.

FAW Car acquires 10% stakes in Mobike Chuxi



Shanghai (Gasgoo)- FAW Car Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as FAW Car) announced on Jan. 7 that it signed strategic cooperation agreements with Management Committee of Guian New Area, Guizhou Province and Guian New Area Mobike Chuxing Technology Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as Mobike Chuxing). Besides, it also signed a cooperative production framework agreement on EV project with Sitech Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Sitech).
According to the strategic cooperation agreement signed with Mobike Chuxing, FAW Car plans to acquire 10% stakes in Mobike Chuxing. Joining forces with Mobike Chuxing is deemed as the most significant measure among FAW Car's three agreements.
It is revealed from the agreement that FAW Car will be the product provider and manufacturer of Mobike Chuxing. Besides, FAW Car stated that they will cooperate in car manufacturing and research in customized vehicle segment as well as vehicle sales in mobility service area. Both parties will share such relevant resources as operational experience, operating modes, customer data, etc. Besides, they will also share other advantageous resources, including but not limited to financial service and after-sale network.

The cooperation agreement between FAW Car and Guian New Area showed that FAW Besturn brand will set up an office in Guian Jin'gang Automobile Culture Park, mainly taking in charge of brand promotion, experience and sales for the full lineup of FAW's brands.
FAW Car and Guian New Area will jointly promote the model development and cooperative manufacture for Sitech. What's more, they will also conduct comprehensive cooperation in Mobike's ride-sharing customization development, integrated platform building between vehicles, charging piles and network, as well as a green mobility demonstration area in Guizhou Province.
In accordance with the strategic cooperation agreement signed with Sitech, FAW Car and Sitech will produce NEV products and derivative models at FAW Car's factory, based on FAW Car's NEV manufacturing licenses. In principle, the existing equipment of FAW Car will be prefered to use in car manufacturing. Their cooperation will remain in force from the signing date to Dec. 31, 2022.

Ford 2017 China sales fall 6 percent


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Ford Motor delivered a total of 1,196,625 vehicles in China last year, down 6 percent from a year ago, the automaker announced on Tuesday. Its December sales in China dropped 9 percent year on year to 140,103 units.
In 2017, Changan Ford handed over 826,740 vehicles to customers in China, down 14 percent compared with 2016. Its December sales in China were 102,219 units, decreasing by 12 percent year on year.
JMC 2017 sales totaled 292,942 units, up 11 percent from a year earlier. But its December sales in China reported 6 percent year-on-year decrease and totaled 30,322 units.
Lincoln delivered over 54,000 vehicles in China last year, soaring 60 percent compared with the year before. It is the third consecutive year for the luxury marque to break annual sales record. In the last month of 2017, the sales of Lincoln totaled 6,030 units, jumping 41 percent, its highest monthly sales volume in China. All of its five models, Navigator, MKX, MKC, Continental, MKZ, set a new monthly sales record in December, 2017.
The delivery of Ford Escort reached 42,000 units, increasing 18 percent year on year and setting the best monthly sales record. The sales of Mondeo grew 6 percent year on year to 15,000 units. And Ford delivered more than 4,200 Mustangs in China last year.

China's companies at CES 2018


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The 51th International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is going to kick off on January 9, 2018 in Las Vegas. Over 4,000 companies are arriving there for this annual splendid tech fest. A great number of China’s enterprises will attend this CES to reveal new products and hopefully provide the most fashionable experience of science and technology at the trade fair.
Below are just a small part of Chinese participants who are going to show off products and technologies relevant to autonomous driving vehicle area at the show.
Baidu
As a frequenter of CES, Baidu has announced that it will showcase its cutting-edge AI technologies and products at CES, including autonomous driving platform Apollo and conversational AI platform DuerOS.
It is reported that at the show, Baidu will unveil Apollo 2.0, the latest version of the Apollo open autonomous driving platform. Since Apollo platform opened in April 2017, it has formed a partnership with many enterprises globally. Baidu stated that Apollo 2.0 provides a comprehensive, secure and reliable solution that enables vehicles to drive autonomously on simple urban roads.
At 2018 CES, in cooperation with its partners, Baidu is also set to launch a new AI hardware based on DuerOS, China’s advanced conversational AI platform.
BYTON
BYTON, establishing its North American headquarter in Silicon Valley in December last year, released its first concept vehicle at CES on January 8 (Beijing time). Visitors can see the exterior, configuration details and performance of the new vehicle.
The production versions based on this new consept vehicle will be put into production in BYTON’s Nanjing plant in the end of 2019 and may be sold at lowest price of around RMB 300 thousand ($45 thousand).
As to the technologies of BYTON's products, the gigantic dashboard touchscreen, diversified intelligent interactive modes, personalized services and facial recognition vehicle system may become attractions. Meanwhile, BYTON is about to announce its crucial partners at CES, including the partners in autonomous driving area.
Horizon Robotics
Horizon Robotics, a China’s startup of embedded artificial intelligence, is dedicated to providing integrated and open embedded artificial intelligence solutions of high performance, low power and low cost.
On December 20, 2017, Horizon Robotics launched two types of embedded AI visual chips, Journey 1.0 processor and Sunrise 1.0 processor. Specifically, Journey 1.0 processer is designed for intelligent driving vehicles, which is compatible with high-performance L2 ADAS system and Sunrise 1.0 processor for intelligent cameras can be applied in many practical scenarios, such as intelligent safeguard systems and intelligent cities, etc.
Reportedly, the above two types of chips will be exhibited at 2018 CES within a booth of around 90 square meters.
RoboSense
RoboSense (brand of Suteng Innovation Technology Co., Ltd), one of China’s LiDAR solution provider, had unveiled the temporal research and development progress of MEMS (micro-electromechanical system)-based and OPA (optical phased array)-based solid-state LiDAR in October 2017.
RS-LiDAR-M1 Pre, a Lidar model RoboSense will showcase at CES this month, is made on basis of MEMS. It is able to be embedded into any vehicle with advantages of mass production, low cost and high definition, etc.
Jimu Intelligent
Jimu Intelligent, a China’s vision-based ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) solution provider, is going to announce several ADAS-based industry solutions and driver monitoring system on its CES trip.
The ADAS-based industry solutions consist of ADAS-based active safety system and background management system which can warn vehicle collisions, recognize traffic signals and analyze drivers' behaviors, etc.
The driver monitoring system is designed to reduce traffic accidents by closely monitoring a driver’s status and operation through in-vehicle cameras.
Meanwhile, Jimu Intelligent will also unveil a new factory-installed ADAS that is an automotive-grade hardware platform based on deep-learning.
Minieye
The Chinese startup technology firm Minieye is devoted to researching and developing technologies of vehicle visual perception and relevant products. It insists that a better driving assistance system will help avoid danger from drivers’ misjudgments. Currently, Minieye’s self-developed ADAS has already achieved mass production.
At 2018 CES, Minieye will display its latest ADAS products and reportedly, announce the progress of its fund raising.
Xpeng Motor
Xpeng Motor, a Chinese EV startups, will also participate in CES this year. According to Xpeng Motor, at this show, it will showcase Xpeng 2.0 production models, a compact pure electric SUV, and plans to put Xpeng 2.0 to market for sale in spring of 2018. The new vehicle will be upgraded in aspects of exterior, battery range, driving experience and autonomous driving.
TuSimple
TuSimple is working to create the advanced commercially viable autonomous truck driving platform with a foundation in computer vision, algorithms, mapping, and AI.  At CES this month, Hou Xiaodi, CTO of TuSimple, and his team will demonstrate the L4 autonomous driving North America prototype truck and other research achievements of autonomous driving technologies. Besides, TuSimple will announce its partnership with North American truck manufacturers in the near future.

Audi claims championship title in China luxury vehicle market



Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Friday, FAW-VW Audi announced that it delivered a total of 595,288 vehicles in China and it has become the most popular luxury auto brands in China for 30 times.
In the last month of 2017, the luxury brand records best ever  with a total volume of 68,948 vehicles. In the past year, the Audi A3, the Audi A6L and the Audi Q5 have been the best-seller in their own segment.
In 2017, the Audi A6L was the most popular model in the luxury vehicle market. Its delivery reached up to 142,214 units in the past 12 months. In the SUV segment, Audi handed over 124,055 Audi Q5s. The delivery of its B-class sedan, the A4L, went up by 16 percent to 114,483 units. The total sales of the Audi A3 and the Q3 took up 28 percent of the brand’s annual sales in China.
The luxury brand has formed a sophisticated dealer network and service system in China. By the end of December, 2017, there are a total of 482 authorized dealers across 203 cities in China, of which 264 dealers have a history of over 5 years.
Up to now, Audi offers over 30 models in China, including A-series, Q-series and R-series and covering 9 segments, namely Limousine, Sportback, SUV, allroad quattro, Avant, Cabriolet, Coupe, Roadster, Spyder.
In 2018, Audi will introduce a total of 16 models in China, including the all-new Audi A8L with enormous AI features and the Audi Q2L, another new model in China.

Qoros changes legal representative



Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 29, 2017, Chen Anning, general manager of Chery Automobile Co.,Ltd (Chery) and president of Qoros Automotive Co., Ltd (Qoros) was no longer the legal representative of Qoros. Chen Lin, general manager of Baoneng Holding (China) Co., Ltd., took over the post as the new legal representative of Qoros.
Meanwhile, its operation period has been extended by another 10 year from December 24, 2032 to December 24, 2042.
Previously, Qoros had two shareholders which were Wuhu Chery Automobile Investment Company Limited and Quantum (2007) LLC. At present, Qoros has the third shareholder that is an investment company also controlled by Baoneng Group .
Baoneng's senior executive becoming Qoros's legal representative is a part of actions for Baoneng to invest capital in Qoros. Besides, Baoneng has unveiled its layout of new energy vehicle's production capability in Kunming, Guangzhou, etc, and its plan to acquire more new energy vehicle businesses in future which may bring some changes to China's new energy vehicle market.

TOGO closes $ 26 million B+ financing round


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Beijing TOGO Science and Technology company (TOGO), one of China's leading sharing-riding service providers, announced on Jan. 2 that it had finished $26 million B+ financing round, which is led by Crescent HydePark (CHP), and followed by SIG Asia Investment and ZhenFund. At the same time, TOGO also declared that it will invest more heavily in NEV's operation to build up a new industrial ecology for sharing vehicles.
After the financing, TOGO stated that it will focus on providing premium sharing-riding experience for urban citizens in the following aspects. Firstly, it will continue to fasten its pace in market expansion, enlarge its business scale in first-tier cities and expand its market share in second and third-tier tourist cities. Secondly, TOGO will continue to optimize and increase sharing-riding fleet and provide more brands, more personalized vehicles for the platform. At the meantime, TOGO will explore and optimize convenient experience for customers and improve refinement operation. Thirdly, it will invest more heavily in the operation and scale supply of NEVs.
From September, 2016 till now, TOGO had finished four rounds of financing. After TOGO received B round of financing from SIG with a total investment of $22 million in October, 2017, it had finished two rounds of financing during 90 days, totaling $48 million.
According to Cai Jiong, Vice President of TOGO, in the future, the majority of the vehicles on TOGO platform will be NEVs, although currently its major vehicles are fuel-powered ones. TOGO has also reportedly ordered a batch of the Tesla Model 3, which are expected to run in different cities over the next few months. Apart from this, TOGO had contacted with several car manufacturers, aiming to produce a number of small and fashionable NEV models to meet customers' needs and demands.
TOGO, a riding-sharing operator, currently is available in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi'an and Chengdu. Meanwhile, TOGO will enter into some optional capital cities, and reasonably put the vehicles into usage in the future.

Apollo to unveil Apollo 2.0 at CES 2018


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- It is reported that Baidu Apollo will take part in the 51th International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) from January 9 to 12 of 2018, competing with autonomous driving businesses of other countries on that occasion. At CES of Las Vegas, Apollo is going to display its most comprehensive cutting-edge technologies of autonomous driving, its latest ecology progress to present trend of Apollo's autonomous driving platform.
Relevant sources revealed that Baidu Apollo will exhibit its product ranges at CES 2018 to show its mass-production achievements to developers of other countries and make in-depth exchange with them.
The long-expected Apollo 2.0 will be unveiled on the show. The appearance of Apollo 2.0 is a comprehensive leap for China's autonomous driving technologies. Besides, CES will announce many of Apollo's oversea partners, more economic sensors and diversified vehicle models at the same time. According to information exposures, Udacity, Microsoft, Qualcom and TomTom will attend the show as Apollo's cooperative partners.
